What to do if your pet is missing
There are quite a few things that you can do which may help you find your pet more quickly:
- Even though it is a distressing time, it is important to try not to panic. Take a few minutes to double check any usual places your pet could be hiding - you would be surpised how many calls PETtrac receive from pet owners reporting their pets missing only to find them 5 minutes later in the shed or under a bed
- Make sure that the contact details are correct on your pet's MicroChip, and report your pet missing to the microchip database
- Notify your local dog/animal warden that your pet is missing
- Contact rescue organisations such as RSPCA, SSPCA, Cats Protection and local rescue centres
- Get in touch with your local vet practices in case someone has reported your pet found to them
- Use posters and flyers within your neighbourhood, and contact neighbours who may have seen your pet
Additionally, if your dog is missing:
- You can contact the police, especially if you suspect your dog has been stolen
- If your dog is missing whilst out walking, talk to other dog walkers
Additionally, if your cat is missing:
- Ask neighbours to check sheds, garages and conservatories, where your cat could be hiding
- Try calling your cat, particularly when your cat would normally be coming home for food and listen to see if they respond to your calls

The PETtrac Database handles calls 24hrs a day where pets are reported missing and understand that it can be a hard and traumatic experience for all concerned. To help you find your missing pet we have put together some information which we hope you will find useful.
